Manjushree Rajya

I think Kathmandu Valley (Kasthamandap)’s federal county name should be MANJUSHREE RAJYA because Kathmandu valley was established by Bodhisattva MANJUSHREE. It is not ethnical word like NEWA RAJYA. Now all the ethnical groups live in the valley so it’s’ name should be unbiased.

Who Is Manjushree ? (Extracted from http://www.luckythanka.com/)

MANJUSHREE, personification of Transcendent Wisdom, and embodiment of the discriminative awareness (prajna). He is also the first among other Boddhisattvas according to Mahayana Buddhist scriptures. In the Namasangiti [Mahayana scripture] he is called ‘Adi-Buddha’, or pre-moral Buddha, while in some of the text of sutras, he is referred as an historical character.

In the Svayambhu-purana, it is related that Manjushree left Mount Pancasirsha to visit the shrine of Svayambhu [presently in Kathmandu], which was on a mountain in the center of Lake Kalihrada. He found the lake filled with aquatic monsters and the temple inaccessible. He therefore ‘opened with his sword a valley on the southern side of the lake [presently CHOVAR], the waters of the lake drained through the opening, leaving dry land at the bottom, and this was the Katmandu, the capital city of Nepal. So, he is believed as founder of civilization in Nepal and a ‘Wanderer’ [mendicant Buddhist priest] who propagated Buddhism into Nepal.

Do you think that our city name should be changed?

Posted on May 22nd, 2009 in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Kasthamanadap is an original name for Kathmandu city. Kasthamandap is mingling of two words kastha+mandap. Which means kastha=wood and mandap= pavilion (stage). This is a Sanskrit language.
The word Kasthamadpa is derived from Kasthamandap temple which is situated at Maru Hity Tole near Kathmandu Durbar Square.
The word Kathmandu is a corrupt form of kasthmandap so I request all fellow Nepalese to help to change the city’s name from Kathmandu to KASTHAMANDAP.

Kasthamandap; the source of the word Kathmandu and supposed to be made from the timber of a single tree located at near the Durbar Square. Kasthamandap temple is massive, foursquare 12th-century wooden structure that gave the capital city its name. It is said to have been built by King Laxmi Narsingha Malla in the beginning of the sixteenth century.
Some of the countries and cities around the world has changed their names for originality and safeguard the cultural heritage. For example, Siam > Thailand, Burma> Myanmar, Nippon> Japan, Ceylon> Sri Lanka, Rhodesia > Zimbabwe, Persia> Iran, and similarly Madras> Chennai, Calcutta> Kolkata, Bombay>Mumbai, Peking> Beijing.
The proposals for the change of city’s name has been submitted to Prime Minister’s Office and Local Development Ministry in the year 1995 and since then it has been never in their agenda due to non benefit to govt officials from this proposal.
Now we should raise the voice and submit the memorandum to govt soon so that we have original name for our city. If you agree on this, please send email to bikesh@hotmail.de
